We selected Gove Landscape Construction for our backyard, which had never been landscaped before, and was, in the words of my father-in-law “like the surface of the moon”. Randy worked with my wife and me in lengthy design phase with a local landscape architect and was indispensable with his sage advice, striking the balance between beauty, efficiency, possibility and practicality. The design phase took a long time of multiple rounds with our landscape architect. I don’t believe that we could have come up with an affordable, beautiful, complete and complimentary design if we hadn’t had Randy’s guidance throughout the process. His decades of experience came to bear as an advocate for us, even against ourselves, because he understood our underlying vision and how we could best achieve it. We ended up with a significant length of walls, decking, fencing, stairs, a sunken fire-pit and major grading of the garden. The plants we selected were almost all native or otherwise well adapted to El Dorado Hills’ climate, and I’m confident that they’ll flourish for years to come without needing to use Randy’s one-year plant warranty too extensively. Once we got through the design phase, because of the closeness with which we’d worked with Randy, his bid was timely and efficient, and he didn’t begrudge us shopping it against competitors. His bid was competitive and fell in the middle range (we were well into the six-figures for the major project), but it was the most comprehensive and properly line-itemized, which we appreciated. It was a very easy decision to stick with Randy for the build, although we did go to a deck company, at Randy’s suggestion, for our deck. Randy assisted with the oversight and timing of that construction phase. Randy’s team of employees and subcontractors were all A-grade professionals with deep knowledge and expertise in their various crafts. From ultra-precise Cowboy Ron, to botanist-extraordinary Randy Reid, to the tireless Tim, and everyone else on the Gove team, we were in the hands of master craftsmen who shared their opinions freely and with the comfort of knowing that they had a great boss who was going to listen to their ideas and suggestions. The whole team worked cleanly, and knowledgeably, explaining anything we asked and always keeping the backyard clean and as presentable as possible when doing major landscaping. Because of the time spent in the design phase, the implementation phase went smoothly and without significant changes and without cost overruns. It took about 5 months to finish the half-acre project, which was exactly the amount of time that Randy had forecast before we signed the contract. Throughout the entire time, Randy was extremely responsive and involved in the entire process, frequently dropping by the house to check in that everything was going exactly as it should, and correcting the few and minor instances where something wasn’t up to his standards without us needing to complain or raise the issue. The result of his team’s effort is a showstopper of a half-acre backyard that has stunned our friends and family since it was completed. Randy Gove is not only a world-class landscaper, he is also, and is always, a world-class human being. I love the fact that our backyard was developed with and landscaped by someone who is local, who loves El Dorado Hills and is a pillar of the community. I love running into Randy randomly at Raley’s, Mikuni, or Beach Hut Deli. His team are also locals, and it is just that little-bit-nicer to know that what they’ve built is part of enriching their own community and making El Dorado Hills a special place to live. Gove Landscape Construction completed a huge overhaul of our front and back yards. Harlan Hardesty was the landscape architect who drew up the very detailed plans, and Randy Gove helped to scale it down to fit our budget. We are thrilled with the results!
